Why is There a Need for Online Presence

I respect people who desired anonymity in the cyber world. I may not agree with their reasons, but I understand their fears and hesitation. Leaving no media footprint is the way to go for people who wish to remain private in their lives – no social networking profile, no blogs or whatsoever. It sounds so sad.

Working adults, especially professionals, need to be visible in the World Wide Web. Why? Social media has changed the recruitment landscape. Many companies even big corporation have LinkedIn accounts, and they are actively seeking for potential candidates or talents. Instead of companies waiting for individuals to respond to their ads and browsing through the overwhelming number of CVs, they search for people that meet their requirements. This strategy let companies avoid insincere applicants or the time-wasters.

In this digital era, online presence isn’t just a trendy thing to do, but it is essential especially to people who owns a business or who markets their services or products. One of the quickest, simplest and less expensive ways to create an online presence is to set an account in social networking giants like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Myspace and Google+

I strongly believe in the power of social media. Hence, as a self-declared advocate of Web 2.0, I leverage social media for business  and use it for self-expression. Well, I consider myself a novice. There are many things to learn. It actually gets overwhelming at times.

Professionals using social media have the competitive advantage over their counterparts who are not active in the internet.  This let companies find them, see their track records and offer them jobs or business opportunities. It’s the same for business that incorporate social media marketing to reach their target audience. Professionals too need to use technology in order to be searchable and market themselves.
